This year’s community read is Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond. You are invited to check out and read a copy, then hear Dr. Desmond at one of the two events listed above.
The book describes eight families in Milwaukee struggling to stay in their homes. It won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction, a National Book Critics Circle Award, and an Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence.
Dr. Desmond is a professor of sociology at Princeton University. He received his Ph.D.from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
