The road south: rediscovery the freedom riders on the road south - In the summer of 1961, riders–both black and white–boarded interstate buses to test a pair of Supreme Court rulings related to interstate travel. For their efforts, they were beaten, fire-bombed and imprisoned. Fifty-five years later, BJ Hollars retraced portions of their harrowing journey in an attempt to learn the Freedom Riders’ personal stories, as well as the lessons they learned along the way. Join Hollars for a reading and conversation from his new book, The Road South: Personal Stories of the Freedom Riders.
