New Business
Director’s Report

  • Summer Reading:  Our summer reading program is already at 85% of last year’s total participation.
  • Staff Professional Development:  Library Lead Angela Yu and Kopetsky attended the YOUmedia conference in Chicago on June 20-22.  The Chicago Public Library Foundation provided funds for mileage, hotel and some other expenses.  In July, three staff members will be attending the Play, Make, and Learn Conference in Madison.
  • Staffing Changes:  Sam Krasny started today as our new children’s librarian.  He comes from the Berlin Public Library and spent several years as a teacher.  We have a library assistant position open as we had a staff member resign last week.
  • Staff Wage Study:  Kopetsky met with Carlson Dettman to discuss the wage study.
  • Value of Service:  The Public Library Association has a calculator to quantify library services available.  Their calculator includes physical circulation, computer usage, meeting spaces, electronic resources and programming.  It still does not cover everything the library has to offer such as the makerspace, copying/printing, digitization equipment or use of the library space for work and study.  As of May, the year-to-date value is $2,356,343.35 for those items that are quantified.

May Statistics
Raschke has been working with Winnefox to add an identifier to the Library of Things collection to make them easier to track and report on.  Currently, these items are spread across kits, electronics and toys/puzzles.  These items continue to grow.  Usage of the facility and program attendance also continues to grow.

2023 Budget Status
Trustees reviewed the 2023 budget status.

Approve 2024 Closed Dates
New Year’s Eve (Sunday, December 31, 2023) was added to the 2024 closing dates.  Motion made by Witt, seconded by VanderHeyden to approve the 2024 closing dates in addition to December 31, 2023.  Motion carried unanimously.
