This non profit organization is working to make reading aloud 15 minutes a day a new standard in childcare. When each child is read to for 15 minutes a day starting at birth, they are more prepared to learn how to read in kindergarten, and they will have more literacy skills they will need to succeed in school.
"Reading aloud is the single most important thing a parent or caregiver can do to improve a child's readiness to read and learn."
We here in the Children's Room fully support this statement and the mission of the Read Aloud 15 Minutes campaign. We will be sharing information, suggestions, and tips for making 15 minutes of reading a part of your daily routine from Read Aloud 15 Minutes throughout the year both in print and online. If you have questions, or if your organization is interested in becoming a partner with Read Aloud 15 Minutes, stop in at the Children's Info Desk or call 967-3670.
