Action Items/Funraising Efforts
A.   Eating and Reading Around Menasha
Salsa’s Mexican Restaurant and Luigi’s Pizza and Pasta are interested in donating a portion of their proceeds for a night and having guest readers. The Weathervane is not going to work since they are not open in the evenings. Aspen Landing has not returned phone calls. Stone Toad is not as family oriented. Menasha Grill serves more grown up food. Wicihowski will talk with Germania Hall for possibly a Friday night. B. J. Clancy’s is another possibility. Lenz and Dreyer will look into some dates during the school year – January/March.

B.  Can Collection
Lenz spoke with Buildings Superintendent Adam Alix who said there is space in the outside wooden box for cans. He is willing to put in some PVC piping so cans can be inserted directly into a holding area. A sign will be needed above saying “deposit aluminum cans here” with an arrow. This will also need to be communicated to the public by website, newsletter and possibly on book/DVD checkout receipts. This will be brought to the board on June 19.

C.  Million Pennies
Crawmer emailed Dr. Bill Durkin, U. W. Fox Valley Engineering Department, and is waiting to see if the container for pennies could be a project for the engineering students.

D.   Chili Cook-off / Book Baskets
Gegan Elementary School and the Jefferson Park Pavilion would be options to hold a chili cook-off September 19 or 20, or October 3 or 4 possibly with entertainment. Cramer said that Gegan School is available on those dates and Lenz will check on Jefferson Park. Lenz will also contact Todd Drew from the Health Department to see if there would be any issues. A flat fee of $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children could be charged at the door. Categories of chili may include: restaurants, local celebrities and anyone else. Awards would be based on various types of chili such as the spiciest and white chili and prizes awarded from donations from local businesses such as The Wreath Factory and Wild Apple Studio and Gallery. Book baskets could include themes such as Packers, cooking, birthday, healing, holiday and kids and done as a silent auction or by putting tickets into a jar. A list of recommended books may be provided, purchased or used from the collection from the book sale. It is important to specify what exactly the proceeds of these fundraisers are going toward.
