FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

ELISHA D. SMITH PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

May 8, 2014

Call to order at 3:42 p.m. by chair Crawmer.

Present:  Crawmer, Kiley and Wicihowski
Absent:   None
Also Present:  Director Lenz and K. Dreyer (Administrative Assistant)

Public Comment/Communication
Committee members received the new financial report that Dreyer has been working on so that the operating expenses and endowment reports are clearer.

Action Items/Funraising Efforts
A. Pizza at the Farmers Market
Menasha Farmer’s Market is held from June 12 – October 30 from  2:00-6:00 p.m. We could sell pizza by the slice.  Stevi B’s would sell us pizzas (10 slices) for $6.00 each and we could sell slices for $1.00 or we could work with Aspen Landing.  There is probably a booth fee and we would need to get volunteers.  Selling cotton candy would be another option, but there would also be the cost to rent the machine.

B. Eating and Reading Around Menasha
Talk to restaurants in Menasha about donating 10% of their proceeds for a night and have guest readers.   Suggested restaurants included:  Aspen Landing, Salsa, Germania Hall, Stone Toad, Menasha Grill, Luigi’s, WeatherVane and Wise Guys.  Hold on a quarterly basis.   Lenz contacted Luigi’s, Crawmer will contact Salsa and Kiley will contact WeatherVane.

C. Can Collection
Lenz will ask if there is space outside in the wooden box to collect aluminum cans and if Adam Alix could take them to be recycled.

D. Million Pennies
Crawmer will talk to U. W. Fox Valley and Fox Valley Technical College about making a container to collect pennies.

E. Other ideas
Wicihowski googled fundraising for libraries and these were some of the ideas:  soup supper, quilt raffle, pie social, ice cream social, chili supper, book baskets, spring tea, jazz concert, wine tasting, read a thon, breakfast and scrabble tournament.  Chili night could feature local restaurants and celebrities.  Book baskets could be made up from a list of books we develop or assign books and then auction them.  Wicihowski will look into a chili night with book baskets to hold early November in time for Christmas and developing a flyer to review at the next meeting.  Lenz will ask the Mayor about using the Memorial Building.  We need to let people know what specifically the proceeds of these fundraisers are going towards.

Adjournment
Meeting adjourned at 4:25 p.m.

Next meeting – Monday, June  9 from 3:35pm

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Dreyer, recording secretary
