There is still time to join--

and there is a program for everyone of all ages.  Ask at any service desk.  Win prizes!

Kids! The Dig Into Reading summer program, which runs through August 3, encourages kids to read a little daily to keep up their skills over summer vacation.  This program is for everyone entering 5th grade this fall or younger.

This year we will have reading challenges at two levels: The Thirty Books Challenge and The Forty Books Challenge. Children will receive a folder to write down their titles during the summer.  If they read 30 books, they receive extra coupons. If they read 40, they receive a certificate of appreciation and a one-day family swim pass to Swimtastics.

We will report all the names of those enrolled in the summer library program to their schools, and keep a special list of children who took The Thirty and The Forty Books Challenge and achieved their goal.

Children enrolled in the program read for 10 to 20 minutes a day and attend great free programs at the library. They spin a wheel to receive a small incentive each week that they complete their Dig Into Reading bookmark slip.

Each child goes at his own pace and completes as many slips as he or she can. Every child who completes at least 6 of the 8 possible slips will receive a paperback book in August. With a great lineup of special concerts, entertainers, book parties, crafts, nature, and arts programs, we promise kids a lot of fun and great reading over the summer months.

Pick up a brochure of programs planned throughout the summer at the Children's Desk.

For those entering 6th grade up to those who will be seniors this fall -- you will be reading Beneath the Surface -- you'll do better when school starts again in fall if you read just a few minutes each day during the summer.

Win great prizes for reading!  Record the title of a book you've read and enter to win.
