May 13-19 is officially known as Children's Book Week, an annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading.
This week-long celebration was started in 1919, making it the longest running literacy initiative in the country! Today the event is run by the Children's Book Council and Every Child A Reader. Events to celebrate Children' s Book Week are held all across the country wherever children and books meet - homes, schools, bookstores, and of course, libraries! We're celebrating right here in the Children's Room with a special prize drawing - stop in anytime the library is open this week and drop your name in our fish bowl for a chance to win a special Children's Book Week prize.
As well as the Children's Choice Book Awards, a special CBW poster is designed every year by a prominent children's book illustrator. The 2013 CBW poster was designed by Brian Selznick (The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Wonderstruck) and you can see his poster in the image to the left!
So help us celebrate Children's Book Week 2013! Come on into the Children's Room, find some good reads to take home & enter our CBW drawing! Hooray for books and reading!
