New Fairytales Discovered!

The library owns several versions of classic folk and fairytales. We also own re-written stories of classic tales. Our friends at the Arrowhead Library System shared an amazing article about 500 new fairytales discovered in Germany. The collection of fairytales was owned by historian Franz Xaver von Schönwerth (1810-1886). Franz lived around the same time as the Grimm brothers and collected stories from the Bavarian region of Oberpfal. The Grimm brothers knew of Franz and admired his work. Unlike the Grimm brothers, Franz's work faded into obscurity. The new tales are being published and the article listed one fairytale available online: The Turnip Princess. Happy reading, friends!
