Computer Classes at the Library

hannah — June 17, 2009 - 2:45pm

Computer Classes at the Library continue throughout summer!!  Sign up today!

The Reference Department will continue to host computer instruction during the months of July and August this summer.  These classes are for the beginner and are held in the Lower Level of the Library.  Check out what we have to offer:

Computer Basics: This class will teach you the very basics: turning on the computer, using the mouse, and getting started with Windows. Hands-on experience will help ease any fears you may have regarding computers. This class is intended for those wtih little or no computer experience.

Introduction to the Internet: Take this class if you are interested in learning how to surf the 'Net! Beginning computer users will be provided with an introduction to the Internet and all of its parts. Learn about web browsers, web sites, search engines, and all the tools you'll need to effectively access and navigate the Internet.

E-Mail Basics: Today you need an email account to do just about everything online: reserve a hotel room, apply for a job, participate in chat or instant messaging, bid on auction items, belong to listservs and more. In this class you will learn how to sign up for a free e-mail account, how to compose messages, send mail, and "reply" to and "forward" messages. We'll talk about folders, storage, attachments and some of the precautions everyone needs to know when communicating electronically.

Excel 2007: Want to know the basics of Excel? Do you know what a sheet tab is or where the ribbon is on the new 2007 Excel? These questions and many more will be answered.

Word 2007: Do you already have some familiarity with previous versions of Microsoft Word, but want to know more about 2007? This class is for you! Spell check, cutting & pasting, inserting pictures and tables will help the student create a customized document - the sky's the limit!

Advanced Internet: Build on skills developed in "Introduction to the Internet" class: learn effective search strategies and techniques using Google; recognize and evaluate different types of Web sites (maps, photo sharing, translators, directories, databases), and become familiar with online forms for employment, membership, social networking, etc. Internet experience necessary.

Make the Most of Your Library Card: Can't find what you're looking for in the web (card) catalog? Take this class and learn how to locate those hard-to-find music CDs, old movies, and audio books. We'll show you how your library card can reserve materials from other Winnefox libraries and be brought directly to Menasha! Discover ways to obtain materials from libraries outside Winnefox, even outside the state of Wisconsin! Or, how you can read the book online! We’ll also show you how to find medical, automobile, business and genealogy information on our research page, too. You know, your library card just may be the most important card in your wallet!

Web 2.0: Twitter, Delicious, StumbleUpon and other strange words are starting to pepper everyone's conversations. Learn what these terms mean and how to use these and other online tools via Web 2.0.

Call 967-3690 for dates and times.  All classes require pre-registration.
