"Computer Basics"
Are you computer illiterate? This class will teach you the very basics: turning on the computer, using the mouse, and getting started with Windows.

Hands-on experience will help ease any fears you may have regarding computers. This class is intended for those wtih little or no computer experience. Class will be held in the Activity Room, Lower Level of the Library.

"Introduction to the Internet" - Computer Class
"Double-click" on this class if you are interested in learning how to surf the 'Net!

Beginning computer users will be provided with an introduction to the Internet and all of its parts. Learn about web browsers, web sites, search engines, and all the tools you'll need to effectively access and navigate the Internet.

This class will be held in the Activity Room, Lower Level.

"E-Mail"
Today you need an email account to do just about everything online: reserve a hotel room, apply for a job, participate in chat or instant messaging, bid on auction items, belong to listservs and more.

In this class you will learn how to sign up for a free e-mail account, how to compose messages, send mail, and "reply" to and "forward" messages. We'll talk about folders, storage, attachments and some of the precautions everyone needs to know when communicating electronically.

Menasha Kids Read One Book Program Begins

Do you like puzzles, mysteries, games, brainteasers, or art? Then you won't want to miss Kids Read!, a special winter reading program for kids in grades 4-6 . We are inviting all 4-6th graders in Menasha to read the same book during one four week period.

The book, Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett, is the story of two teens who try to solve an international art theft. This Kids Read! program runs Jan. 14 - Feb. 15. There will be read alouds in the classrooms, copies available for checkout at the library, and fun programs including a chance to give your opinion about the book. Kids will receive a mood pencil at sign up. This family literacy project is co-sponsored with the Menasha Joint School District and funded by a grant from the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.

Sign-up for Scintillating Science Workshop

Kaboom! Registration for "Scintillating Science", a free three-week afterschool science workshop for kids in Grades 2-5 begins on Monday January 14. Using fun mixed with science, host Cindy Duckert will help participants explore dinosaurs, paper airplane derring-do and wild experimentation. This workshop takes place on Wednesdays, January 23, 30 and February 6 from 4:00-4:45 pm and is co-sponsored with the Weis Earth Science Museum. Puzzling Art with Mary Tooley

Artist Mary Tooley introduces kids to some puzzling and mysterious art projects. Kids will go home with one of their own creations. This free program is part of the Kids Read winter reading program & is perfect for kids in grades 4-6.

"Microsoft Word"
Take this class to understand the basics of using Word to create letters, flyers, brochures, invitations, etc.  Tasks presented will include opening a new document, formatting pages, printing, and, saving the file.

Spell check, cutting & pasting, inserting pictures and tables will help the student create a customized document - the sky's the limit!  Class will be held in the Activity Room.

This class will be repeated on Tues., Feb. 12th, 10:30 - Noon, and on Saturday, March 8th, 10:30 - Noon (Company E. Room, Lower Level).

Making the Most of Your Limited Resources: Tips to Sharpen Your Finances

Alan Prahl from the Financial Information Services Center (FISC) will help you learn ways to make the most of your money. Topics will include financial planning, making better spending decisions, managing credit, and more! This free program will be held in the Company E Room in the lower level of the library. Book Bingo!

Shoot for the Stars - Read! Winter Reading Program Begins

Menasha kids, Preschool- Grade 3, are invited to join our fourth annual community winter reading program. The 4-week program begins Monday Jan. 21 and is perfect for kids ages 3-8.

Readers who check out books at the library will receive a weekly "surprise". Children enrolled in Menasha Schools can pick up their "Star Passport" in their classroom or school library; preschoolers ages 3 and up and home-schooled children can stop in at the Children's Dept. desk beginning January 21 to pick up their guides.

This free program is presented in happy cooperation with our Menasha Public Schools.

Star Wars Party

The Children’s Department invites children in Grades K-5 to a Star Wars Party. Children are encouraged to come dressed as a favorite Star Wars character for this fun galactic gala celebrating all things Star Wars. This program, part of the Shoot for the Stars-Read! community-wide winter reading program, is free and perfect for kids in grades K-5.

"Digital Camera Workshop"

Join us on Saturday, January 26th, from 10 am - Noon, as Jason Pamenter, from jDog Studios, describes the "ins and outs" of taking digital photographs.

Bring your digital camera and any questions you have regarding settings, uploading, storage, sharing online, etc. This workshop will be held in the Company E. Room, Lower Level.

Menasha High School Band

The Menasha High School Blue Jay Brigade will be performing under the direction of Kevin Plekan, the band earned the honor of being one of only seven bands chosen nationwide to perform at the half-time show of the 2008 BCS Bowl Game in New Orleans. Come hear this talented group as they present their rocking BCS music--including The Final Countdown and Eye of the Tiger--and tell about their experience at the Superdome. "Community Blood Drive"
The Community Blood Center will conduct a Blood Drive at the Library on Monday, January 28th, from 3 - 6 pm. Walk-ins are always welcome!! However, scheduling an appointment in advance helps ensure a speedy donation for all.

Call the Reference Desk at 967-3690, to reserve a time. A person never knows when he, or someone he loves, is going to need blood. It may be YOU!

Read to a Dog

During "Read Off Your Fines Week", you can read to a real dog! One to three dogs will be available for kids to read to Monday and Thursday between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.  A furry canine will listen patiently as children read aloud to them in a relaxed environment designed to help improve reading skills and confidence in children.

The League of Women Voters will hold a Voter Forum on the 5 candidates running for the office of Mayor of the City of Menasha on Thursday, January 31 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Co. E Room at the Menasha Public Library.

Smith Park Winter Gala

Join us to celebrate winter fun at Smith Park featuring Frozen Flamingo Golf, a snow sculpting contest and storytelling at 1:30 pm with Marge from the Library. This free activity sponsored by the City of Menasha Park and Recreation Dept, needs no registration and is part of the Shoot for the Stars-Read! community-wide winter reading program.

Baby Stay and Play Registration Begins

Registration begins Monday, February 4.

Bring in Baby for twenty minutes of sweet stories, rollicking rhymes, and merry music. Stay for playtime and pizza afterwards. We'll provide toys for Baby and pizza for the adults. Perfect for babies birth-24 months and their parents/caregivers.

Celebrate Carnivale!

Carnivale will be celebrated with the Vale Todo Salsa Band in the Co E. Room. This twelve piece Latin band of Lawrence University students features a blend of trumpets, sax, percussion, piano, horn, and vocals. Dessert will be served in the Children's Department Spanish Language book collection area following the concert.
