"Swing Into the New Year"

"Computer Basics"
Are you computer illiterate? This class will teach you the very basics: turning on the computer, using the mouse, and getting started with Windows.

Hands-on experience will help ease any fears you may have regarding computers. This class is intended for those wtih little or no computer experience. Class will be held in the Activity Room, Lower Level of the Library.

"Double-click" on this class if you are interested in learning how to surf the 'Net!

Beginning computer users will be provided with an introduction to the Internet and all of its parts. Learn about web browsers, web sites, search engines, and all the tools you'll need to effectively access and navigate the Internet.

This class will be held in the Activity Room, Lower Level.

"E-Mail"
Today you need an email account to do just about everything online: reserve a hotel room, apply for a job, participate in chat or instant messaging, bid on auction items, belong to listservs and more.

In this class you will learn how to sign up for a free e-mail account, how to compose messages, send mail, and "reply" to and "forward" messages. We'll talk about folders, storage, attachments and some of the precautions everyone needs to know when communicating electronically.

Menasha Kids Read One Book Program Begins

Do you like puzzles, mysteries, games, brainteasers, or art? Then you won't want to miss Kids Read!, a special winter reading program for kids in grades 4-6 . We are inviting all 4-6th graders in Menasha to read the same book during one four week period.

The book, Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett, is the story of two teens who try to solve an international art theft. This Kids Read! program runs Jan. 14 - Feb. 15. There will be read alouds in the classrooms, copies available for checkout at the library, and fun programs including a chance to give your opinion about the book. Kids will receive a mood pencil at sign up. This family literacy project is co-sponsored with the Menasha Joint School District and funded by a grant from the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.

Sign-up for Scintillating Science Workshop

Kaboom! Registration for "Scintillating Science", a free three-week afterschool science workshop for kids in Grades 2-5 begins on Monday January 14. Using fun mixed with science, host Cindy Duckert will help participants explore dinosaurs, paper airplane derring-do and wild experimentation. This workshop takes place on Wednesdays, January 23, 30 and February 6 from 4:00-4:45 pm and is co-sponsored with the Weis Earth Science Museum. "Microsoft Word"
Take this class to understand the basics of using Word to create letters, flyers, brochures, invitations, etc.  Tasks presented will include opening a new document, formatting pages, printing, and, saving the file.

Spell check, cutting & pasting, inserting pictures and tables will help the student create a customized document - the sky's the limit!  Class will be held in the Activity Room.

Shoot for the Stars - Read! Winter Reading Program Begins

Menasha kids, Preschool- Grade 3, are invited to join our fourth annual community winter reading program. The 4-week program begins Monday Jan. 21 and is perfect for kids ages 3-8.

Readers who check out books at the library will receive a weekly "surprise". Children enrolled in Menasha Schools can pick up their "Star Passport" in their classroom or school library; preschoolers ages 3 and up and home-schooled children can stop in at the Children's Dept. desk beginning January 21 to pick up their guides.

This free program is presented in happy cooperation with our Menasha Public Schools.
