An occasional info update from the public library to our Menasha teachers
Welcome Back!
Hope everyone had a wonderful break. It's great to have you all back again - and a special welcome to all the new staffers at the elementary schools! We extend a special invitation to our new teachers to stop by the library, introduce yourselves and get to know us (and our great resources). Menasha is a special place with strong partnerships and ties between the schools and the community. We look forward to working with both new and old friends over the next year!
FREE-Quent Reader Program is Here!
In Sept and Oct. we are encouraging kids (ages 3-10) to be FREE-quent readers by visiting the library and checking out books. Each time kids check out books during those two months they will get their FREE-quent Reader card (available at the library in fall) stamped. Kids who get all eight stamps will be given a brand new book to keep during Children's Book Week in November. Classes are welcome to walk to the library weekly to participate and check out books. Your first visit will include a brief fun tour and orientation for the kids to the delights of the Children's Dept!
Teacher Packs
Need additional materials for your classroom? Call us and order a rotating collection of books to place in your classroom for six weeks. Our Children's Literature specialists will select a variety of materials for you including fiction, non-fiction, trade books, controlled vocabulary readers and magazines. You can also order deposit collections on specific subjects or areas of study (poetry, biography, science, dinosaurs, writing, history, etc). We take care of check-out and boxing them up and your MJSD van stops weekly to drop off and pick up the packs. What could be easier? Simply call us at 967-3670 or email your request to
MPL-Childrens@menashalibrary.org to start your pack today!
Teacher Cards
You can get your own teacher card for use at libraries in the Winnefox system (Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha, Ripon, Fond du Lac and more!). You may reserve and renew materials on-line with this card and there are no fines. If you don't have yours yet, stop in and fill in the application and you'll receive this helpful "teacher" card as a special benefit.
Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes....
Beginning in September, the Check-out Desk in the Children's Dept will move over and join with the Adult Check-out Desk. Kids and families will still get the same great service and see the familiar faces of Cassie, Kelly, Becca, Ashley and Alison (plus get to know the great staff at the Main Check-out Desk) when they check out their materials.
It will be a big change for our community - and for staffers! We believe the efficiencies that result will help us through budget and staffing issues on the horizon. Our children's librarian staff looks forward to more time creating and doing programs with kids; increased outreach to all of you in the schools and daycares; and creating new and innovative partnerships projects with you and other community organizations to promote literacy and reading.
