Collections

The Children's Room has thousands of items available to be checked out - for free!  We've gathered our items into a number of collections that we think will be helpful, entertaining and educational for you and your students!  Below you'll find an overview of our collections; if you'd like to check the availability of a specific title visit our online catalog

Parent/Teacher Collection
The Children's Dept. has hundreds of books to help you with your work. General curriculum guides, clip art, bulletin board ideas; Mailbox magazines and Mailbox resource books; literature and writing guides; math, science and other subject guides for teaching all ages; storytelling resources are included. All materials are available for check-out. Come in and browse today.

Caldecott/Newbery Award Collection
The Children's Dept has a copy of all Caldecott and Newbery award winners available for check-out. The books are located next to our Foreign Language collection.

Kinder Kits
Kinder Kits contain educational and literacy games and materials for use with groups of preschoolers. The materials are perfect for early childhood teachers and caregivers to share with young children. Themes include: Dinosaurs; Transportation; ABC's; Farms; Animals; Bears; Bugs; Cats; Numbers; Folk and Fairy Tales. You can use your teacher card to check out these materials. Author Adventure Kits

At the suggestion of PTO parents and teachers, in 2008, the Children's Dept staff developed 24 kits called Author Adventures focusing on children's book authors and illustrators...and they are ready for you to check out! Each kit contains 8-10 titles by the author, biographical info, websites and, in some kits, activities to go with some of the titles. Selected kits also include video biographies, stories on video and audio cassette stories.

Just stop in to pick a kit off the shelves near the Teacher Tower or call the Children's Dept to reserve a kit with your teacher's card and we will ship out to public schools via your MJSD van. Storystarters
A complete storytime in a bag includes: three books perfect for reading aloud; fingerplays and a flannelboard story. Popular themes include: ABC's; Transportation; Space; Big & Little, Circus; Families; Five Senses; Friends; Pets and Weather. You can use your teacher card to check out these materials. Book Club Express

All Menasha School District teachers for grades three through six will be able to checkout the reading packs on their teacher card and have a classroom book club for their students. There are 26 Book Club Express packs with 25 paperback books in each one. When available, packs may include a book in Spanish, a book on CD, author information and study guide questions. To order a book pack for your classroom please call Julie in the Children's Room at (920) 967-3670. Booklists

We have lots of book suggestions for all ages of readers!  Ask one of the librarians at the Children's Information Desk for the Preschool or School Age binder. Each binder holds a number of booklists divided by theme. If you need a book about bullies or fractured fairy tales, ask for the School Age binder. If you have a unit on transportation or community helpers, ask for our Preschool binder. Each binder contains fiction and non-fiction books. Stop on in and ask for a booklist today!  We also have booklists available online in the books section of our website.

 

Isabel Brich Early Literacy Kits

The library received a special gift and the Children's Room created early literacy kits for teachers and families. Each kit is housed in a blue bag and shelved in the Parent/Teacher section. Each kit contains an assortment of books, CDs, fingerplays and early literacy tips. Currently, twenty-one kits are availabe for checkout.
